Çeşme is a town on the west coast of Turkey and one of the districts
of İzmir Province. It is a prominent center of international tourism
in Turkey and is famous for its clubs, beaches and fish restaurants.
The nearby depending townships of Ilıca and Alaçatı are also very notable
in this respect. It lies across a narrow strait from the Greek island
of Chios.
The Çeşme Peninsula is a western part of Karaburun Peninsula, surrounded
by Aegean Sea, in the west of İzmir, in Turkey's Aegean region. Çeşme,(meaning
fountain in Turkish) derives from the many sources of water found in
the area. It is one of Turkey's touristic areas with landscapes of cultivated
fields of aniseed, sesame and artichokes dotted with fig and gum trees.
There are many Blue-flag bays nearby. Alaçatı, near Çeşme,is a windy
area in all seasons and so it is a famous windsurf palace.Visitors will
find excellent holiday accommodations, restaurants and sports and entertainment
facilities. Çeşme has an international harbor linked to İzmir with a
superb highway (80 km).Also it is possible to visit daily Greek islands
by ferry from Çeşme port.
ILICA
Ilica district is 5 kilometers east of Çesme. It's famous for its gulf,
beach 2 kilometers long, white thin sand and thermal spa underneaththe
Se. The thermal waters fed by many underground volcanic resources spurt
from calcareous tufas, nd cracks. The most important one of these is
the Topan (Hamidiye) spawith wateras warm s 55 degrees. Çesme Yatch
Club was founded in 1985 and in time became the most successfulytch
club in Turkey, by hosting many competitions, having the biggest yacht
fleet and offering training to hundreds of sailors in the summer and
winter. TheThe climate of Çesme, warm and crystal waters of the sea
nd its location inside the breakwater provides this club and its students
with mny advantages. Since the Ilica gulf is shaped like a huge pool,

ALACATI
Alaçatı It is seven kilometers away from Çesme. Alaçati is a lovely
town with a combination of Turkish/Greek architecture, rough cobblestone
pavements, over hundred year old windmills and Sakizli gardens. The
Ayios Konstantinos church has been converted into a mosque and still
remains standing as Pazaryeri mosque. Every year people from all over
the world come here to join the "International Children and Youth Theatres
Festival" performed during the last week of June every year.
Alaçati natural harbor; is one of the rarest places in the world for
surfing since the sea is very smooth yet there is consistent and steady
winds. While Çark and Piyade beaches are windless, sandy and calm. The
yacht harbor and airport are under construction and are expected to
improve the potential of tourism in the area.
Donkey Island In the ancient times it was known as Goni. This island
is three miles away from Çesme. There is no human settlement on the
island. A great many donkeys, goats and rabbits live here. There are
beautiful coves andinlets around this island. Regular boat trips to
the island are available.According to a rumor, localstookthe old donkeys
to this island when they stopped agriculture in the area as a result
of impro ving tourismand the donkeys reproduced in time and became the
symbol of the island. The donkeys are protected and cared for. There
is a wind-powered wellin the island to supply water for the donkeys
as well.
